Counterfeit 1835 Half Cent

Numismatically Yours recently acquired an interesting example of an 1835 United States Half Cent. At first glance the coin looks quite pleasing; however, a brief study will reveal the devious nature of the piece. We have uploaded photos to hopefully prevent you from buying such a piece in the future. The first sign that this coin is a counterfeit is the misshapen date. Another sign is that the letters on the reverse are quite “mushy” when you compare to a genuine coin. A view of the edge will also reveal that the coin has a very sharp rim. Most half cents of this era will show a more rounded edge.
